Geneva Volleyball On A Roll

The Lake Park Lancers took Geneva to three sets Thursday, but the Vikings held on to to win in three sets, upping their season record to 11-2.

The Vikings volleyball team beat Lake Park, a cross divisional conference opponent, Thursday in three sets. Geneva took the first set 25–13, lost the second 25–23, and came out with 25 –18 win in the third set to defeat the Lancers.

Geneva now has an overall record of 11-2, with a 1-0 record in the River Division of the Upstate Eight Conference.

Assistant coach Jaime Spolum said it's the mark of a good team to hold off Lake Park's challenge on a night when the Vikings didn't bring their A game.

"We started off slow in Game 1 and gave up Game 2 off of poor serves and execution. The passing was there, we just couldn't execute to end the volley," Spolum said. "(The Vikings) didn't play at their level, but fought through it and came out with a win."

Leading the Vikings with 17 kills and 6 digs was senior Riley Sullivan. Brooke Binette followed with 11 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks.

Spolum emphasized the importance of Sullivan's kills and Brooke Morphis' 34 assists in the Vikings' victory.

"Riley led the team, and Brooke kept mixing up the offense with the help of Ashleigh Shain's passing," Spolum said.

Shain had 10 digs and 7 points against the Lancers.

Senior Ashley Boser led the Vikings with 5 blocks. Senior Holly Stimac tallied 2 aces and 5 points.

The girls volleyball team plays tonight and Saturday at the Glenbard West Invitational in Glen Ellyn.
