Geneva High Student Pours Gas On Himself In School Cafeteria: School Officials

A soft lockdown at the school has been lifted. All students are safe and classes are continuing as planned, city officials said.

GENEVA, IL -- Fire crews were called to Geneva High School Monday morning after a student reportedly poured gasoline onto himself in the school's cafeteria. The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m., and students and staff were able to act quickly to prevent the student from harming himself or others, school officials said in a statement Monday. The student was taken to an area hospital and no other injuries were reported.

On Monday morning, local fire and police departments responded to the scene and administrators temporarily put the school on a soft lock down, according to a news release from Geneva Community Unit School District 304.

Students were rerouted away from the cafeteria, and fire crews cleaned the area. School officials say it is now safe for students to enter. The soft lockdown was lifted as well, and the students have resumed their normal school day.
