Hop to it! Families must get out & play this weekend!
Annual Egg Hunt, Earth Day Celebration & Hawks Hollow Grand Hatching set for this Saturday, April 12.The Geneva Park District is so ready for spring! We're hosting a variety of FREE family-friendly events this weekend to coax the warmer weather out to play with our community.
The fun begins with an age-old tradition-- The Easter Bunny will spread over 5,000 eggs across the soccer fields at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road for the Annual Egg Hunt! This free-to-the-public hunt begins promptly at 10 a.m., rain or shine. The hunt is split into two age-specific categories: ages 4 & under, and ages 5 & up. Parents should remember a basket, and dress their children appropriately for the weather as dewy spring mornings can be a little chilly.
Don't be late! Early arrival is advised, as parking is limited.
This year's Annual Egg Hunt is sponsored by Epic Air, Geneva Bank & Trust, and Corner Bakery Cafe. Plus, the Easter Bunny & Heinz Brothers Greenhouse have teamed up to fill special golden eggs with coupons for free spring flowers! Geneva Park District requests that adults refrain from picking up eggs for their children to keep this event fair for all our young participants.
After the Annual Egg Hunt, the family fun continues across the street for Geneva Natural Resources Committee's seventh annual Earth Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event offers families a chance to appreciate nature's splendor at the beautiful Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road, while learning more about how to protect our Mother Earth.
Visitors will be greeted by colorful chalk art on the park's circle drive, as all artists (big & small) are invited to contribute to display their creativity. Residents can drop off papers to be shredded, and recycle old electronics, no. 6 foam containers, natural wine corks, and plastic gift cards. Other Earth Day highlights include free bicycle tune-ups, food from local vendors, rain barrels and compost bins for sale, information from vendors at a Geneva Green Market, free chair massages and health screenings, children's entertainment, and more!
New this year, Working Bikes will be accepting bicycle, bicycle parts, crutches, sewing machines, and wheelchairs for donation. Experienced mechanics will refurbish donations for future use.
Plus, Geneva Park District is celebrating the re-opening of Hawks Hollow Nature Playground for spring with a Grand Hatching Event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Explore the award-winning playground with a scavenger hunt through its eight interactive learning stations featuring native bird species and natural elements. Climb to the top of Raptor's Roost, get a little messy on the mud wall, help build the Muskrat Hunt or Nature Nest, navigate a log maze, or make some music on the Songbird Stage!
Hawks Hollow Nature Playground is a 2014 Illinois Parks & Recreation Association Outstanding Facility that engages visitors in environmental education through unstructured activities and hands-on play.
