Inmate Sues Kane Co. for $1 Billion for Denying Him Ballot to Vote

He claims a correctional officer did not provide him with an absentee ballot and mocked him over the election results.

KANE COUNTY, IL - A Geneva man who is behind bars for a weapons violation is suing the Kane County jail, claiming a correctional officer denied his request for an absentee ballot so he could vote during the past presidential election. Louis Alexander Bertaux, 53, says he was also mocked by the officer, who supported Donald Trump, regarding the outcome of the election, according to the Daily Herald.

In the lawsuit, Bertaux writes not being allowed to exercise his Constitutional right was the "equivalent to being murdered inside," according to the Daily Herald.

Patrick Gengler told the Daily Herald inmates are typically given a ballot when requested but he could not comment specifically on pending litigation.
