Low Vision Support Group Offered at Geneva Eye Clinic
Vision care, health and well being, support groups
Patients who have a severe, permanent loss of vision are often suffering with Low Vision. "The cause of this vision loss can be congenital or acquired through various conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration or glaucoma," states Sheila Setork, OD, licensed optometrist at the Geneva Eye Clinic. Low vision can make it difficult to navigate day-to-day activities.
The Geneva Eye Clinic can provide various aids for these patients, such as magnifiers, telescopes, and electronic devices. Dr. Setork explains, "The purpose of our low vision exam is to help patients achieve specific goals, such as reading a book or watching their grandchild's soccer game."
Patients with severe vision loss can also benefit from occupational therapy and specialists who help with orientation and mobility. "Ultimately, our goal is to provide patients with a diverse toolbox of aids and resources to successfully navigate their environment and lead fulfilling lives.”
