Man, 18, Dies After Freight Train Hits Him In Geneva: Police
Preliminary findings indicate there was no foul play in the fatal crash, Geneva police shared.
GENEVA, IL — An 18-year-old man died Sunday evening after an eastbound freight train struck him near the Western Avenue crossing in Geneva, police said Monday.
Police and firefighters were dispatched at 9:51 p.m. for a report of a train crash involving a pedestrian. First responders located the teen near the Union Pacific-West railway tracks east of Western Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager was alone at the time of the crash. Preliminary findings indicate there was no foul play, Geneva police shared.

Officials are not releasing the man's name as his family members are still being notified of his death, according to a news release.
The stopped freight train blocked the Western Avenue crossing for several hours. The incident is being investigated by the Geneva Police Department and Kane County Coroner's Office.

The Geneva police and fire departments were assisted on the scene by the Metra Police Department, Geneva Emergency Management Agency and Kane County Office of Emergency Management.
