Man Crossing Geneva Street Airlifted After Hit-and-Run

Authorities are searching for the driver following the Thursday night hit-and-run in downtown Geneva.

GENEVA, IL — A 73-year-old man was taken by helicopter to a suburban hospital after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in downtown Geneva Thursday night, police said. Meanwhile, the Geneva Police Department is asking for the public's help in tracking down the sports utility vehicle that struck the elderly Aurora man at about 8:50 p.m. in the 400 block of West State Street in Geneva, according to a news release from the city of Geneva news release.

Witnesses told authorities the man was crossing West State Street when the SUV, which was heading west on the roadway, ran into him. After hitting the man, the driver fled the scene, continuing west on State Street and was last seen heading north on Fifth Street, according to a news release.

First responders found the elderly man unconscious in the roadway and immediately started first aid procedures, according to authorities. He was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and then airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for further medical treatment.

Authorities have not determined the make and the model of the SUV, which is described as a light-colored vehicle that could be a Cadillac Escalade.

The Geneva Police Department is requesting anyone with information about this traffic crash to call the department’s Investigations Division at 630-232-4736.
