Man Shot By Deputy Charged With Attempted Murder: Police
Angel X. Lopez of Ingleside was taken into custody Wednesday and is being held on a $3 million bail.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A 23-year-old Ingleside man critically injured after being shot by a police officer in Wadsworth earlier this month has been charged with attempted murder. Angel X. Lopez, of the 35800 block of North Wilson Road, brandished a pistol while trying to flee from police after he was reportedly caught trying to steal a car in Wadsworth during the early morning hours of Nov. 2. A Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy shot Lopez, critically injuring him.
On Wednesday, Lopez was released from a local hospital and taken into custody. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony; aggravated vehicular hijacking, a Class X felony; armed robbery, a Class X felony, armed violence, a Class x felony; unlawful possession of a weapon, a Class 2 felony; two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Class 2 felonies; unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, Class 2 felony; and aggravated assault, a Class 4 felony.
Deputies and the sheriff's canine unit were first called to a home in the 13200 block of West Greenview Drive in Wadsworth at about 4:45 a.m. on Nov. 2, where a resident reported a car burglary in progress, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

In a 911 call, the woman said a man was trying to steal her car.Upon the deputies' arrival, the man ran away and stole a vehicle that was warming up a block away in the 13300 block of West Greenview, police said. He took off driving in an attempt to escape but crashed the vehicle into a tree.
After the crash, the man pulled out a pistol, and one of the sheriff's deputies then shot the man, the sheriff's office said. At the time of the incident, Lopez was wanted on a warrant for an escape charge.

In March 2018, Lopez was sentenced by a Lake County Judge to 36 months of periodic imprisonment on a criminal charge. He was ordered to return to community-based corrections each day following his work-shift. On April 13, Lopez did not return and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Lopez is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $3 million bail.
