Monarch Landing Offers Residents Travel Adventures Near And Far

Barb Marsh may have retired in 2008, but she certainly hasn’t slowed down, thanks in large part to the travel club at Monarch Landing in Naperville. She moved to the senior living community about two and half years ago, partially due to the abundance of travel and activity opportunities available for residents.

“I was delighted when I moved here to have found the travel club,” Marsh said, who learned about Monarch Landing from her physician. It didn’t take her long before her love of travel was evident to other residents. “They would tease me when they would see me in the hallway and say ‘Oh, you are here?’”

Marsh, 76, has booked a few tours on her own, including an Alaskan cruise and a Viking River cruise that took her from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Monarch Landing, however, provides not only travel opportunities, but peace of mind when it comes to making travel arrangements and leaving home, she said. The costs of the trips are all inclusive: airfare, transportation to and from the airport, lodging and even a tour guide, but void of the hassle of booking a tour.

“I can take off for 16 days and not worry about a thing,” Marsh said. “They check on my place here and it feels so safe, and they couldn’t make it any easier. I always say Monarch makes it easier getting older.”

Travel opportunities include day trips to take in a play at the Paramount Theater in Aurora or to listen to the Chicago Symphony. Extended trips, such as a 14-day Rhine River boat cruise in Europe, was the first long trip Marsh booked as a resident of Monarch Landing.

“It was wonderful,” she said.

Marsh is part of the travel committee and helps to plan adventures, including the upcoming two day, one night riverboat cruise down the Mississippi River.

“The day trips, overnight, and extended trips are a great way for new residents to meet people and integrate into the community,” Marsh said.

Marsh said that there are enough trips planned throughout the year that residents could take just about one trip a month. The opportunity is one that Marsh will not let pass her by.

“I’m going to go-go-go until I can’t go anymore,” Marsh said. “Monarch Landing makes it so easy.”
