Mosquito Spraying Scheduled In Geneva After West Nile Virus Detected In Kane County

GENEVA, IL — A city-wide mosquito control application is scheduled from dusk Tuesday to dawn Wednesday, Geneva officials said.

Clarke vehicles will drive around the city applying the synthetic treatment after area mosquito surveillance traps recently tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to a news release.

Geneva is joining neighboring towns to conduct mosquito spraying this week.

The treatment is safe for humans and pets, but people with asthma and other respiratory conditions are encouraged to stay indoors with windows closed during the misting application and for one hour afterward.

Residents can report mosquito nuisances and standing water issues directly to Clarke.

It's possible the mosquito spraying could be rescheduled due to inclement weather, officials said.
