New Vendor Selected For Hazardous Waste Collection Program
Geneva residents looking to dispose of hazardous waste can now schedule an appointment online, and contractors will come pick up the items.
GENEVA, IL — Spring cleaning for many means going through items stored throughout the house and getting things unwanted or unnecessary. People looking to dispose of hazardous materials can now make appointments online to have someone come pick up the waste.
City Council approved a five-year intergovernmental agreement March 21 to have Kane County's new contractor, Massachusetts-based Clean Harbors Environmental Services, service Geneva starting this spring.
The program is open to residents wanting to dispose of automotive fluids, pesticides, household cleaning chemicals, fertilizers, latex paint and light bulbs, among other things.

Residents are able to schedule one collection per year at no additional charge, officials said. The maximum weight limit is 70 pounds.
To schedule an appointment, residents can fill out an online form or call Clean Harbors at 866-466-5060 between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. From there, a customer service representative will provide instructions on how to pack the items before pickup.

Household batteries can still be recycled at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St., during normal business hours Monday through Friday.
