No Stickers Needed On Geneva Yard Waste Pickup In Late March

Spring cleaning is upon Geneva residents, and city staff is helping propel the process by offering two weeks of free collection.

GENEVA, IL — Spring cleaning is upon Geneva residents, and city staff is helping propel the process by offering two weeks of free collection.

During the last two weeks of March, locals will not need to include refuse stickers on their yard waste. The free disposal is part of the city's contract with Lakeshore Recycling Systems.

All residents have to do is leave waste bags at the curb and they'll be picked up on regular pickup days during the weeks of March 20 and March 27, officials announced.

Scraps from yards — including grass clippings, vines, weeds, leaves, plants, pinecones, small branches and garden waste — should be placed in brown paper bags and shouldn't weigh more than 50 pounds. LRS's yard waste carts can also be used during the free collection period.

The city provided a few other reminders when it comes to yard waste:

  • Refuse stickers will expire June 30, when the city's current contract with LRS ends.
  • Stickers will again be required on yard waste beginning with April 6-7 collections.
  • Tree limbs more than 1 inch in diameter can be disposed of during Geneva's monthly brush pickup scheduled to start in April.
  • Residents can begin including food scraps in their yard waste starting in April.
