'Passed Out' Parents Accused Of Leaving Kids Outside: Cops

The Geneva couple entered guilty pleas to charges of endangering the life or health of a child.

GENEVA, IL – A Geneva mother and father entered guilty pleas to misdemeanor charges of endangering the life or health of a child for accusations they got drunk, passed out and failed to hear their children knocking at the front door after school last fall. Ernest R. Nishi, 44, and Anna M. Nishi, 43, of the 100 block of Syril Drive, have been sentenced to one year of court supervision and also have been ordered to complete drug and alcohol evaluations and show proof of those evaluations.

Authorities said the charges stem from an incident on Nov. 14 where the couple got intoxicated and did not hear their two sons, ages 8 and 10, knocking at their front door after school, according to the Kane County Chronicle. The children were left outside in 48-degree temps on Nov. 14 before a neighbor saw the kids having issues getting into their home and called police.

The Department of Children and Family Services ultimately decided the children would stay with their father moving forward, police told the Kane County Chronicle.
