Sheriff's Office Looking for Man Who Lead Police on Chase

The man walked away from the hospital Wednesday where he had been treated before police could take him into custody.

Police are searching for a 29-year-old Hinckley man who lead them on a chase in Kane County earlier this week and then escaped from a hospital before deputies could take him into custody Wednesday.

Matthew Hageman faces several charges stemming from the recent incidents and is also wanted an various warrants. Police first pulled Hageman over at a gas station located at Route 47 and Cross Street in the village of Sugar Grove around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office press release.

While they were talking to Hageman, he drove away, heading south on Route 47, police said. He drove into a field and then back into the roadway near the construction zone near Route 30 and Dugan Road, striking several construction cones. He eventually pulled over in a corn field and fled on foot.

Deputies set up a perimeter near the intersection of Route 30 and Daubeman Road. Hageman was eventually located in a corn field nearby and taken to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora for treatment of minor injuries, according to the news release.

Police searched his car and located a small amount of heroin, police said.

Hageman spent the night at the hospital and was discharged the next day. He left the hospital before deputies responded to take him into custody and has not been located since. He is known to frequent the Sugar Grove and Big Rock area.

The Kane County States Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Hageman and additional warrants were issued for his arrest:

  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance-felony
  • Fleeing and eluding a peace officer-felony
  • Resisting a peace officer-misdemeanor
  • Driving on a suspended driver’s license -misdemeanor
  • Leaving the scene of a property damage accident-misdemeanor
  • Improper lane usage-traffic offense
  • Driving on a sidewalk-traffic offense
  • Speeding-traffic offense
  • Improper passing on the shoulder-traffic offense
  • Disobeying a stop sign-traffic offense
  • Improper turn-traffic offense
