Spooky Season At Geneva Park District: See What's Planned This October

Most events this month are Halloween-themed. They include ​Escape the Mansion, the Howl O'Ween Dog Parade​ and Halloween Hayday​.

GENEVA, IL — With spooky season officially here, families are decorating their yards, putting out pumpkins and stocking up on candy ahead of Halloween.

To celebrate the season, the Geneva Park District has an array of events planned throughout the month of October.

While the weather remains pleasant, albeit chillier, it's a key time to continue being outside and enjoying nature before winter settles in. Here is a look at what the park district has planned this month.

  • Escape the Mansion
    • What: An escape room-style event that pits groups of 10 people against the clock to see if they can solve challenges, clues, hidden passwords and more before time runs out. Organizers ask, Can you escape Dr. Ingrid's Infirmary?
    • Where: Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road
    • When: 1-9 p.m. Oct. 15
  • Trek-N-Treat
    • What: Children ages 6 to 9 are invited to wear their costumes and take a hike through the Peck Farm Prairie, where they'll figure out puzzles to find surprises and treats.
    • Where: Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road
    • When: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 10-11 a.m. Oct. 23
  • S'More Fun With Mom
    • What: Guests can bring their mom for an hour of sitting around a campfire making smokes, playing games and making crafts.
    • Where: Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road
    • When: 6-7 p.m. Oct. 18
  • Howl O'Ween Dog Parade
    • What: Locals dress their dogs in costumes for a free 30-minute parade. Prizes will be awarded for most creative, funniest and scariest costumes. Pre-registration is required.
    • Where: Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road
    • When: 9-9:30 a.m. Oct. 22
  • Halloween Hayday
    • What: A Halloween-themed event featuring games, a Mad Scientist, costume contest, Halloween egg hunt, bounce houses and more.
    • Where: Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road
    • When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 22
  • Pizza Palooza
    • What: An event featuring pizza and entertainment to kick off Red Ribbon Week. Registration is required.
    • Where: Check back on the park district's website.
    • When: 6-7:15 p.m. Oct. 24
