St. Peter Boys Third, Girls Second By One Point At Aurora Christian Track Invitational
Both 200 meter dash school records fall in an exciting morning for St. Peter Track.
In another close meet for St. Peter, the girls went back and forth with sectional rival Lisbon all morning, eventually falling to second place in the seven team Aurora Christian Invitational on Saturday. Lisbon scored 91 points to St. Peter's 90 in the hard fought contest. Faith Christian of Geneva placed third with 77 points.
Through four events the St. Peter boys were winning the meet but their young team was unable to hold off host and sectional rival Aurora Christian who won the boys division with a dominant score of 130 points. Crossroads of Big Rock eventually passed the St. Peter boys as well placing second with 97 points to St. Peter's 86 points.
The St. Peter student-athletes posted many personal best times and marks en route to their top three finishes. The highlight of the morning came when two St. Peter school records were broken by the record holders themselves. Seventh grader Alec Wilson, for the third week in a row broke his own boys 200 meter dash record with a time of 26.18 seconds, good enough for second place in the event. Therese Hein won the girls 200 meter dash in a school record breaking time of 28.20 seconds, breaking the record she set at the 2013 IESA Sectionals last season.
St. Peter's top relay teams also had success in their events. The girls 4x100 and the girls 4x400 meter relay won their events. The boys 4x200 meter relay also came out on top in spite of missing two of their regular team members.
On Saturday the majority of the team travels to Plano High School for IESA (Illinois Elementary School Association) Sectionals. There student-athletes will compete for a chance to qualify for the IESA State Meet. The St. Peter girls will defend their 2013 7th grade third place finish and 8th grade second place sectional finish. The talented fifth grade team will compete in an Aurora Conference meet at Rosary High School in Aurora.
