St. Peter Girls Running Strong

Young girls teams continues to improve, 7/8th grade team places third.

This time it was fifth grader Juliana Drew’s turn to lead the 5/6th grade Rockets girls into the finish chute. High humidity, a wet course and the challenging hills of Randall Oaks Forest Preserve weren’t enough to stop the team as four out of five girls placed in the top ten in the second Tri County Conference meet of the season. Caitlin Gallagher, Nora Brady (both 5th graders) and 6th grader Greta Prange followed Drew in 6th through 8th place respectively.

The St. Peter 7/8th grade team had a tougher time on the hills finishing third behind winner St. Patrick and host St. Catherine. Eighth grader Aaron Beck looked strong through the one mile mark of the two mile race running in third place overall. Hampered by a cramp, Beck fell to seventh place through the second mile in the boys division to lead the Rockets into the finish. Seventh graders Kaitlin Zucco and Mary Tork placed fourth and seventh respectively for the girls.

The Rockets are in action again next Tuesday at the Royal Cadet Invitational held at Marmion Academy in Aurora. The boys and girls will run separate races giving each team a chance to compete in their own race against a variety of schools.
