St. Peter Track & Field Starts Strong

Sixth grade girls dominate as the team places second to Holy Angels.

In their first meet of the 2015 season, the St. Peter Track and Field team finished second in a field of four teams at Aurora Central Catholic High School on Saturday. Holy Angels of Aurora placed first with 510.5 points followed by St. Peter’s 423. Immanuel Lutheran placed third with 390.5 points and St. Mary DeKalb finished with 284.

Although smaller in size the St. Peter track team posed a huge challenge to the perennial powerhouse team of Holy Angels. Even though the team lacks numbers and depth, they had 22 first place finishes overall during the duration of the meet. With a team of only 40 student-athletes St. Peter knew they would have to bring their ”A” game.

The highlight of the meet were the 6th grade girls team. They scored a total of 107 points for St. Peter dominating their division with the next team (Holy Angels) scoring 50.

Also, 8th grader Alec Wilson returned to the team after a strong showing at the 2014 IESA State Meet. He hasn’t lost a beat as he placed first in all of his individual events. Wilson ran the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.02, missing the school record by 1/100 of a second. He tied the school record in the Long Jump (16 feet, 4 inches) and won the 200 meter dash with a strong time of 26.0 seconds.

St. Peter moves on to Marmion Academy next Saturday where they will face another formidable challenge against Annunciation of Aurora and Holy Cross of Batavia.
