Stockholm's To Charge For Water, Donate Proceeds

Proceeds from the water sold at Stockholm's Brew Pub in Geneva will be donated to The Conservation Foundation.

GENEVA, IL -- Stockholm's Brew Pub is hoping to get a conversation started regarding the importance of water conservation. Clean drinking water isn't free, and Stockholm’s owner, Geneva native Mike Olesen, told Kane County Connects his restaurant will charge visitors 25 cents per glass starting on Sunday, Aug. 26, as a reminder that it takes water to wash it, fill it, make the ice in and then wash it again. The initiative will coincide with World Water Week and all proceeds will go to The Conservation Foundation.

A part-time server at the pub, Robb Cleave, approached Olesen with the idea. Cleave also works as a volunteer coordinator for the Kane County Forest Preserves and says he wants to change people's perception on how water is used, according to the article.

“From a server’s perspective, it’s really frustrating when a group of six people sit down at a table and one person orders a round of water for the entire table and then we end up clearing five completely untouched waters,” Cleave told Kane County Connects.
