Sugar Grove Man Found Guilty of Sexually Abusing Foster Child

A jury found Noel F. Buhay, 49, guilty on four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

KANE COUNTY, IL - A Kane County jury last week found a Sugar Grove man guilty of sexually abusing a foster child who was living with his family more than a decade ago.

Noel F. Buhay, 49, has been convicted on three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, which are class X felonies, according to a Kane County State's Attorney's Office news release.

During a five-day trial, which wrapped up Friday with the jury's verdict, prosecutors said Buhay repeatedly sexually assaulted the victim between January 2004 and May 2004. The victim, a foster child living with Buhay’s family, was younger than 12 years old at the time of the assaults, which occurred in Buhay’s home, according to prosecutors.

Buhay now faces between 18 and 90 years years in prison. In addition to the prison term, Buhay must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Buhay had been free on $30,000 bond. His bond was revoked upon his conviction and Buhay was taken into custody.

Buhay is next expected in court n June 2 for motions and sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services and the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
