Geneva Park District Offers Day Trip Options This Fall

October Trips: Autumn Fest and Stronghold Castle, Ellington's and Ellwood, Dueling Piano Party, Oktoberfest, and Million Dollar Quartet.

The Geneva Park District invites you to take a day-trip with us this October!

Autumn Fest and Stronghold Castle - Saturday, October 7
The heart of the Autumn on Parade Festival is its Farmer’s Market and Craft Fair. 150 craft booths surround the 125 year old courthouse in Oregon. Antique tractors and classic cars will be on display just across the Rock River. A unique two-room school house built in 1883 will be available for viewing. The fest offers a delicious food court. Tours of Stronghold Castle will be available as well as food and entertainment. A wristband may be purchased for $2 for unlimited rides on the festival’s shuttles to any or all of these attractions. Please note: trip involves some walking and on uneven ground. Trip includes admission and transportation. Register by 9/29.

Ellington’s & Ellwood - Thursday, October 12
Try out this student run class located in Holmes Student Center at NIU. Our lunch will feature a seasonal fruit and vegetable, and includes a soup or appetizer entrée (veggie or meat) served with a side and dessert. Coffee and tea are included. After lunch, we will stop at the Ellwood House. This museum reflects the central role of Isaac Ellwood in the development of the barbed wire industry in America. Trip includes transportation, lunch and tour. Register by 10/5.

Dueling Piano Party - Monday, October 16
Enjoy a non-stop party with live music performed in a high-energy setting, as you are captivated by two pianists going head to head playing some popular tunes and your requests. Lunch at the Diplomat West includes Minestrone soup, house salad, Chicken Marsala, Pariessene potatoes, (olive oil & oregano then baked & broiled), green beans, chocolate sundae, coffee & tea. Please let us know if you prefer the vegetarian lasagna option instead. Trip includes transportation, lunch and performance. Register by 9/ 29.

Oktoberfest - Tuesday, October 17
Have a barrel of fun and celebrate Oktoberfest in style. A delicious lunch at Bobak’s Signature Events includes cream of chicken soup, bratwurst with sauerkraut, parsley potatoes, pierogis, cucumber salad, and apple strudel. After lunch sit back and enjoy the show, featuring the Frank K Trio. Trip includes entertainment, lunch and transportation. Register by 10/10.

Million Dollar Quartet--Paramount - Wednesday, October 25
An extraordinary twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis one night for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. Million Dollar Quartet brings that legendary December night to life with an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal and celebrations that is both poignant and funny. Relive the era with the smash-hit sensation featuring an incredible score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits, performed live onstage by world-class actors and musicians. Enjoy “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and many more great songs. Lunch is on your own at Raimondo’s, before the 1:30 pm show; pizza, pasta and salads are their specialty. Trip includes ticket and transportation.

Trips are geared towards older adults unless otherwise noted.
