Teacher of French Recognizes Geneva High School for French Program

The program was only among one of 10 French programs in the nation to be recognized by the American Association of Teachers of French.

Geneva High School was one of only ten schools in the nation to be recognized by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) for its exemplary French program.

The prestigious Exemplary Program with Honors award from AATF recognized Geneva School District’s commitment to providing young people with the language skills they need to become effective communicators in a 21st Century economy.

According to the AAFT, Geneva’s French program stands out by making use of innovative and creative methods in teaching, giving standards-based assessments, and offering numerous cultural activities beyond the classroom.

GHS participates in the AATF National French Contest and inducts students into the National French Honor Society, with many honorees annually. GHS also ensures that students profit to the maximum by offering early language learning in middle school and advanced courses, including AP.

The AAFT also recognized the GHS French faculty for their excellent preparation and steady commitment to professional development.

The local chapter of AATF recently awarded French teacher Pam Cabeen with a chapter award due to the energy, professionalism, and commitment she has displayed throughout her ten year teaching career in the French language classroom.

Fellow French teacher Martha Behlow received the 2015 Regional Superintendent’s Award from the Kane County Regional Office of Education for her innovative approach to language instruction.
