Teen Charged In Fatal Hit and Run: Authorities
A pedestrian, Brett Beckett, 52, of Antioch, was killed in the June crash.

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- A Lake Villa Township teen has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident in connection with a collision that occurred in June in Antioch Township. Abby C. Hansen, 18, of the 37000 block of North Hillside drive in Lake Villa Township, was indicted earlier this month in front of the Lake County Grand Jury. A $75,000 personal recognizance bond was issued this past week, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The charge stems from a June 9 crash that ended up killing a pedestrian. The collision occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in the area of West Grass Lake Road and North Sunset Drive in Antioch Township. When authorities arrived, they found a man lying on Grass Lake Road, on the north shoulder about 500 feet east of Sunset Drive, with critical injuries, according to a news release.
The pedestrian was taken to Condell Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Though authorities were first unsure his identity, the pedestrian killed in the hit and run was later identified as Brett Beckett, 52, of Antioch, according to authorities.

Days after the crash, Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators and Highway Patrol deputies located a 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara, which had damage consistent with striking a pedestrian, at an Antioch body shop. The vehicle was seized and transported to a secure evidence storage facility for further processing.
Finding the Vitara was a "big turning point in the case," Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli told Patch. The vehicle was registered to Hansen's family, Covelli said.
