Two Geneva Schools Will Have New Principals This Year

There will be two new principals at schools within Geneva School District 304 this year.

Brenna Westerhoff has been named the new principal at Harrison Street School for the 2015-2016 school year.

Westerhoff was formerly the Student Assistance Coordinator at Harrison. She has 13 years of experience in teaching, leading, and technology integration in the Geneva School District. She earned her master’s degrees in teaching from Aurora University and in reading instruction from Concordia University.

“Her work has been well received by the staff at Harrison, and she moves into the principalship with a solid understanding of the students, staff and culture of the school,” according to a Geneva School District 304 press release.

Kimberly Hornberg will be the new principal at Heartland Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year.

Hornberg formerly served as the principal at North Elementary School in Crystal Lake School District 47 where she had nearly 15 years of experience in educational leadership.

She has an M.S.Ed. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and a B.S.Ed. from Illinois State University.

While at District 47, “she played a major role in the implementation of full-day kindergarten, a new teacher evaluation plan, standards-focused grading, and the use of student assessment data to improve instruction,” according to the news release.

Both vacancies exist due to the promotions of current principals to district-level administrative positions.

“We are excited about the leadership that these two individuals will bring to our elementary schools,” said Superintendent Kent Mutchler. “They both bring a solid understanding of classrooms and the vision to help us continually improve in serving our students. Mrs. Westerhoff brings a wealth of knowledge to Harrison Street School as the new principal. Ms. Hornberg brings knowledge and successful leadership experience to the principalship at Heartland Elementary.”
