Underground Utility Cable Replacement Starts In Geneva: See Schedule

GENEVA, IL — Geneva plans to enhance its electric service reliability by replacing an underground utility cable along Miller Road and in the Blackberry neighborhood beginning in late August, officials said.

Here is a look at the program schedule:

• Miller Road east of Lewis Road: Aug. 24 to Sept. 4
• Wakefield Lane north of Williamsburg Avenue: Sept. 7 to Oct. 2
• Clover Lane: Oct. 5-30
• Paddock Court: Nov. 2-13
• Cambridge Drive from Williamsburg Avenue to Clover Lane: Nov. 16 to Dec. 4

City officials said the construction dates are estimates and could change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

The city's contractor, Utility Dynamics, will directionally bore new conduit through utility easements, then pull wire through the conduit. Crews will also replace electrical transformers and street lights.

During the latter part of each project, the contractor will energize and connect homes to the new equipment. Scheduled power outages will be required as part of this process; the city will send notifications in advance of any service disruption.

Residents who have private utilities, such as a sprinkler system or a dog fence, should contact the Geneva Public Works Department Electric Division so they can be marked.

Obstructions within 10 feet of a switch, junction box, transformer or pedestal will be permanently removed except for established viable trees, officials said. Anything planted within 5 feet of street lights will need to be relocated as well, and the city encourages residents to move those plantings before the contractor's arrival.

Landscape restoration work will start in the spring once construction is completed.
