Man Might Have Been Using Vandalism As 'Cry For Help': Geneva Police

GENEVA, IL — Police are investigating vandalism that was discovered early Thursday morning at five buildings across Geneva.

Police believe the incidents could be tied to similar vandalism found in St. Charles the same day. In the city directly north of Geneva, police developed a suspect who they said could be "potentially using this outlet as a cry for help," according to a news release from Geneva police.

The first incident of vandalism in Geneva was reported at State Street Diner. Officers responded to the restaurant at 6:50 a.m. after they were notified that yellow paint was sprayed on its windows, officials said.

Throughout the morning, defacement in the same manner was found at four other buildings in town:

  • Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave.
  • Geneva Public Library District, 227 S. Seventh St.
  • Geneva City Hall Building Division entrance, 109 James St.
  • City of Geneva Finance Department, 15 S. First St.

Friday morning, deputies from the Kane County Sheriff's Office located the man suspected to be responsible for the vandalism in St. Charles. He is currently receiving medical assistance, Geneva police said.
