Veterans Day 2016: What’s Open, What’s Closed in the Tri-Cities

Veterans Day—Nov. 11—will be observed on Friday this year.
Below is a list of what’s open and what’s closed. Did we miss something? Tell us in the comments section.
- Post Office: Closed
- Federal Offices: Closed
- City of St. Charles: City offices are open and there will be regular garbage pick-up. A Veteran’s Day Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. inside St. Charles Fire Station 1, at 112 N. Riverside Ave. All are welcome to attend.
- Other village government offices: City offices in Geneva and Batavia will be open during normal hours
- Garbage and recycling: Pickups will continue on their normal schedule.
- Kane County offices, including the circuit clerk’s office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Veteran’s Day. Emergency services, including police services available through the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, will be available. Call 911 in the case of an emergency.
- District 304: Early dismissal. Students will attend District 304 schools in the morning. More information is available here.
- Community Unit School District 303: Schools are open
- Batavia Public School District 101: Half day of school for students.
- Area restaurants and stores: Most should be open. And several restaurants will be offering special deals for veterans. Here is a full list from WGN TV on restaurants providing offers and discounts for veterans.
- Banks: Most are closed. Call your bank before stopping in.
