Water Main Breaks Cause Flooding in Geneva

The city's public works department responded to several water main breaks in Geneva Thursday.

GENEVA, IL — The city's public works department The has finished repairing broken water mains in the city. All residential water service that was impacted earlier in the day due to water main breaks and subsequent repairs should be working as normal, city officials said late Thursday. The East Side Drive water main, which is a transmission line that does not service City water customers, is scheduled to be fixed on Friday, May 10.

The water main breaks, which occurred at Western and Cheever, Dodson Tower behind Harrison Street School and on Woodlawn Avenue and Forest Drive near Route 31, led to road closures and flooding issues in town.

The water main break was first reported at 6:10 a.m. and flooded the area around Western, Cheever and Dunstan Road. The water levels were reported to be 2 to 3 feet deep in spots, according to a City of Geneva news alert.
