Weekend Weather for Chicago Area: Rain and Severe Storms, Reprieve From Heat is Coming

The Chicago area will get a rainy start to its Friday. But the best chance for thunderstorms are expected south of Interstate 88 and west of Interstate 355. By 7 a.m., the area should just see mainly rain showers over Chicago and the Interstate 57 corridor, according to the National Weather Service.

The scattered showers and thunderstorms should gradually wind down by mid-day Friday but an isolated shower or storm cannot be ruled out this afternoon. Overall, the afternoon looks like it will be dry and warm, according to the National Weather Service.

High temps for Friday will be between 81 and 86 degrees.

On Saturday, there is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Weather officials are reminding residents to keep an eye on their local forecast -- especially if they have outdoor plans.

High temps will be between 82 and 88 degrees on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Chicago area will get a reprieve from the heat. It will be less humid and high temps will be between 77 and 81 degrees.

• FRIDAY; Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly late. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
• SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely in the evening, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 60s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
• SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs around 80. West winds 10 to 20 mph.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows around 60.
• MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.
