The holiday celebrates the life and achievements of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. State and federal offices will be closed in observation of the holiday, while retail stores and most other businesses will remain open.
Here is a look at what will be open and closed in Geneva on MLK Day.
- City offices: City of Geneva offices will be closed on Martin Luther King Day but the police and fire departments will remain open. Garbage pickup the week of Jan. 18 will remain on the normal Thursday-Friday collection schedule even with the holiday. The Geneva City Council meeting, normally held on Monday nights, will be moved to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.
- Schools: Closed
- Libraries: The Geneva Public Library is open
- Banks: Closed
- Post offices: Closed
- Retail stores: Most should be open but check with the store before heading out.
