WHEATON, IL– The Conforti Campaign applauds the landmark ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding redistricting. The 6-3 U.S. Supreme Court ruling (a split along ideological lines) in Louisiana v. Callais limits the abuse of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 when redistricting with race as a primary factor for drawing congressional districts.
Niki Conforti, the Republican candidate for the Illinois’ 6th Congressional District, has long been a local opponent of gerrymandering and a staunch advocate for fair representation and election integrity.
“In the state of Illinois, our districts have been gerrymandered to the extreme,” Conforti stated, “which limits the voice of the people. I oppose the use of gerrymandering.”
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision pushes back against the intentional use of race to manipulate district boundaries. Instead, lawmakers should use traditional redistricting principles, such as geographic compactness and keeping communities together. For Conforti, ensuring that elections remain fair, secure, and representative is a central pillar of her platform. In addition to advocating for district maps that are fairly drawn, she is pushing for stringent voter ID laws to protect the ballot box.
“We need a photo ID to buy cough syrup and to get on an airplane; we should need a photo ID to vote,” Conforti noted.
While Democrat incumbent Sean Casten has been concerned with improving his standing and rewriting the Constitution, the Conforti campaign continues to focus on fundamental ideals of sensible solutions and open dialogue. By preserving the voice of the everyday citizen, Conforti seeks to put the needs of the 6th District back at the forefront of Washington’s priorities.
Niki Conforti is an MBA graduate, energy consultant, and former healthcare director who has lived in the 6th District most of her life. The 6th District encompasses eastern DuPage County, Southwest Suburban Cook County, and three Chicago wards: 13, 19, and 23.
