Danby's Station Cafe Closes After More Than 2 Decades In Glen Ellyn

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Danby's Station Cafe has closed after more than 23 years in business in Glen Ellyn.

The building that housed the diner at 750 Roosevelt Rd. will be demolished to make way for a Dutch Bros. drive-thru coffee shop.

News of the closure brought a flood of comments from fans of the restaurant. On its Facebook page, Danby's shared one such dedication, posted by a diner on Friday.

The post read,

"A place where they knew your name and cried with us after losing our loved ones. Where you knew the weekly soup menu, loved the biscuits n gravy, took a tea to go and understood that the tiny bit of leftover eggs needed a box for sunny who was waiting in the car.Thanks Danby's. Thanks Nick, Niki, Toni, Charlie, Laura...everyone. Today I had Lennys Denver omelet ,add American. Tomorrow cheese blintzes in remembrance of my mom while tears fill my tea....it was a great run. Thanks for all the memories."

A post about the closure on the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Neighbors Facebook group brought more than 80 comments, many with residents reminiscing fondly about their visits to Danby's.

Facebook user Joan B. wrote, "Great, another drive-thru coffee shop. Just what we need (NOT). We sill truly miss Danby Station. Great food, generous portions, great service and reasonable prices."

Paula F. wrote, "Nick has wanted to retire for a long time, but couldn't find a buyer. Good for him, but I'll miss him and the food. Maybe NOW I can get the recipe for their Santa Fe skirt steak."

Dutch Bros. Coffee plans to build a single-story, 1,250 square foot building with two drive-thru lanes and redevelop the site's parking lot.
