2021 Homicide In Unincorporated Maine Township Still Unsolved: Police

The Cook County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help with the case involving the death of an 18-year-old boy.

MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL — On the afternoon of April 22, 2021, Erik Esquivel was shot multiple times in the 9600 block of Greenwood Road, in unincorporated Maine Township, while he sat in his red Honda sedan. The 18-year-old boy was later taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he died.

Nearly one year later, the case remains unsolved. Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s office are seeking information from the public to help solve the homicide.

The shooter, described as a male, wearing a mask and a knit cap, fled the scene in a silver Jeep Cherokee, according to police. The Jeep was recovered in the Rogers Park neighborhood, and investigators learned that it had been stolen.

Esquivel had lived in Maine Township for just a few months before he was killed. He moved from Rogers Park after he had been shot there in November 2020.
