The event, organized by the Joseph M. Sesterhenn American Legion Post 166, began at the intersection of Depot and Grove streets and lasted approximately three minutes. The procession traveled east to Pine Street, south to Glenview Road, and then east to the downtown Veterans Memorial at River Drive. The Glenbrook South High School marching band provided music along the route.

Retired Vietnam-era Army veteran Jim Condon, a longtime Glenview resident, served as Grand Marshal. He was recognized for two decades of active involvement with Post 166 and his ongoing dedication to the local community.

The village also spotlighted its “Hometown Heroes” initiative, featuring banners displayed throughout downtown Glenview that recognize exceptional service members.

The parade concluded at the war memorial corner at Glenview Road and River Drive with a community tribute, including remarks, prayers, and the singing of the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”

Looking ahead to July 4th’s 250th anniversary

Local officials and community organizations are planning a special celebration in Jackman Park to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

The event, organized by the village of Glenview, the Glenview Park District, the Glenview Public Library, and the Glenview Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jackman Park, 1011 Lehigh Ave.

The date commemorates the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which occurred four days after the Continental Congress officially adopted the document.

Family activities—including lawn games, face painting, and balloon twisting—will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a live reading of the Declaration of Independence at 5:30 p.m. The evening will also feature patriotic programming, live music, and food trucks.
