GLENVIEW, IL — A new public mural in Downtown Glenview is putting the village's river, open spaces and natural history on a much larger canvas.
The Glenview Art League this week unveiled "Confluence, Life Along Glenview's West Fork," an 85-by-15-foot mural on the west-facing wall of Shoppers Row at 1746 Glenview Road.
The mural, led by artist Anne Farley Gaines, celebrates the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River and natural areas that have been preserved and restored throughout Glenview.
The project was supported through the Cook County Arts Creative Placemaking grant program.
A ribbon cutting was held Monday, with music, refreshments, speakers and an opportunity for residents to meet the artists involved in the project.
The project was more than a year in the making. According to the Glenview Art League, work began with a grant application in spring 2025 before painting and assembly took place over the summer.
Gaines served as lead artist, with professional mural artists Sandie Bacon, Kenny Cunny, Kathleen Brigidina Haerr and Joe Bednarski also participating. The final design incorporated ideas from multiple community groups and collaborators.
The Glenview Art League is a nonprofit arts organization that promotes the study and development of fine art in the community through exhibitions, demonstrations, public art and other programming.
The organization is based at 1920 Waukegan Road and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its public programming includes artist demonstrations and community art projects.
