GLENVIEW, IL — A free community walk at Gallery Park on Saturday will bring neighbors together to raise awareness about mental health and help fund local classes and support groups.
NAMI Cook County North Suburban expects nearly 200 participants for NAMIWalks CCNS 2026, a 3K walk with a $50,000 fundraising goal. Proceeds will support free mental health services across 19 communities in northern Cook County, according to organizers.
The event will take place Oct. 10 at Gallery Park, 2412 W. Lake Ave. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m. The walk is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to noon.
"Mental health conditions touch countless families in our neighborhoods. This is a morning to walk side by side, to meet people who understand, and to show anyone who is struggling that they are surrounded by neighbors who care," said Laura Piel Martín, executive director of NAMI CCNS.
Walkers will wear bright green T-shirts representing mental health awareness, providing a visible reminder that people affected by mental illness do not have to face it alone.
Organizers said the event welcomes people of all ages and abilities. Participants can register individually, with family and friends, or as part of a team.
The morning will also include live music, face painting, a raffle, snacks and refreshments.
Funds raised will help NAMI CCNS provide education, support and advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness. The Skokie-based organization is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Registration is free and available at namiwalks.org/ccns. More information about the organization and its programs is available at namiccns.org.
