GLENVIEW, IL — The Chicago Wolves opened their home schedule Saturday with more than hockey on the agenda, putting local animal shelters in the spotlight as the Glenview-based organization began its 33rd season at Allstate Arena.
Ahead of the Oct. 10 matchup against the Manitoba Moose, the Wolves announced that Wright-Way Rescue and Border Tails Rescue would be among the first organizations presented with donations through the team's "Season of Giving" initiative.
As Patch previously reported, the Wolves plan to donate a combined $3 million to 46 Chicago-area charities during the 2026-27 season. The campaign includes planned on-ice presentations throughout the season.
Recipients include food pantries, animal shelters and organizations supporting first responders, military personnel and people facing mental health challenges.
Saturday also marked the first of seven Adopt-A-Dog Nights scheduled at Allstate Arena this season. More than 2,000 dogs have found homes through the Wolves' Skates'Sidekicks program, according to the team.
On the ice, the defending Western Conference champions fell 6-1 to Manitoba. Chase Wheatcroft scored Chicago's lone goal, with assists from Stiven Sardarian and Gabriel Seger.
The home opener also began the Wolves' slate of 30 games broadcast on FOX Chicago+. The full season is available through AHLTV on FloHockey.
