Appeal Property Tax, Learn How Nov. 17

Northfield Township is accepting appeals for property assessment increases when in cases when values dropped. Attend how-to seminar.

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will be holding a property tax assessment appeal seminar Monday, Nov. 17, at Northbrook Village Hall for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2014 property tax assessments.

Northfield Township is currently open for appeal through Nov. 21. Residents impacted inlcude Glenview, Northbrook and parts of Northfield.

The seminar is co-hosted by Northfield Township Assessor Patricia Damisch and Cook County Commissioner Gregg Goslin. It begins at 7 p.m.

The hour long session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal and address why property taxes go up when the value of your home goes down.

The seminar includes a presentation by Commissioner Dan Patlak explaining the appeal procedure at the Board of Review.

Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions and concerns.

This event is free to the public, and there is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

Appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark Street-Room 601 in Chicago or at the Skokie Office 5600 Old Orchard Road, Room 155.

Taxpayers may also file an appeal online by visiting the Board of Review website at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.

The Northbrook Village Hall is located at 1225 Cedar Lane.
