Banner Preschool Names New Owner/Director

Alexandra Lipscomb and Christine Perkins will manage the preschool beginning in May, when longtime owner Adell Kabins retires.

Following the retirement of longtime owner and director Adell Kabins in May, Banner Preschool will be led by Alexandra Lipscomb - the new owner/director and Christine Perkins, who will serve as the managing and co-director.

According to a press release, the two were in the process of opening their own preschool. They had been former colleagues at Romona Elementary School and had a vision and dream of what they wanted a preschool to be.

Lipscomb, a resident of Glenview, and Perkins, a resident of Evanston, realized that Banner, which has served the Wilmette and Glenview communities for 39 years, was what they envisioned a preschool should be: a place filled with love and respect for young children. Somewhere the children would call their home-away-from-home.

Lipscomb and Perkins believe the reason is because children are not receiving the respect they deserve beginning at a young age.

“Our children are smart,” said Lipscomb. “They know and feel if they are being respected and challenged. At Banner it became obvious that this was one of their top priorities. Respect does not mean letting a child do whatever they want and never saying no. The opposite is quite true. Respect is genuinely listening; creating a routine, setting boundaries, and having reasonable expectations of our little ones.”

An open house will take place to meet the new directors on March 12 at Banner, 3220 Big Tree Ln. in Wilmette from 5-7 p.m.
