Boy, 17, Fatally Struck By Car While Lying In Roadway: Niles PD
Police said it is unclear why the victim was lying in the roadway prior to the Monday morning incident.
NILES, IL — A 17-year-old, who was already lying in a roadway, died Monday morning from injuries sustained when he was run over by a car. According to police, the victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he would later succumb to his injuries.
The incident closed several roadways for at least four hours. All roadways have reopened.
Police responded to the 8200 block of W. Ballard Road at 2:29 a.m. for a report of a person struck by a vehicle. Paramedics from the Niles Fire Department treated the victim at the scene before taking him to the hospital.

Police said an initial investigation into the incident has revealed that the driver of a 2007 Nissan Xterra was traveling eastbound on Ballard Road. The driver, who police said is cooperating with the investigation and was not suspected to be impaired, said they didn't realize it was a person they had struck.
The Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting with the investigation.
