Burglars Strike A Dozen Unlocked Vehicles, 2 Cars Stolen: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Glenview Police Department blotter from Oct. 3 - Oct. 9.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by Glenview police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A resident in the 600 block of Surrey Lane reported around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 that someone stole a phone worth $800 from their home.

SHOPLIFTING
An employee at a store in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported at 5:11 p.m. on Oct. 3 that someone had stolen a vacuum cleaner, fans and a phone on display worth a combined $1,500.

BATTERY
A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Lane reported around 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 that a neighbor had pushed them during an argument about noise but did not wish to press charges.

TRESPASSING
A Metra staff member reported at 7:20 a.m. on Oct. 4 that an unauthorized person was in the train station at 1116 Depot St.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 2400 block of Saranac Lane reported at 1:38 p.m. on Oct. 4 that someone had broken a window and taken a screen from their house for a loss of $550.

COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
An employee at Glenview Liquors, 3553 Milwaukee Ave., reported shortly after 7 p.m. on Oct. 4 that someone had tried to buy a bottle of water using a fake $100 bill.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 500 block of Coronet Road reported around 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had ransacked an unlocked car parked in their driveway sometime after 8 p.m. the previous evening for a loss of $5.
  • A resident in the 2500 block of Pebbleford Lane reported at 5:39 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had entered an unlocked car parked on their driveway during previous overnight hours and stolen a wallet and cash for a combined loss of $335
  • A resident in the 1700 block of Del Ogier Drive reported shortly before 7 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had gotten into an unlocked car parked on their driveway during the overnight hours and rummaged through its glove compartment and center console. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • A resident in the 3900 block of Crestwood Drive reported around 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had gotten into their unlocked vehicle parked on a driveway overnight. The interior was searched but nothing was reported stolen.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Surrey Lane reported at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had gone into their unlocked car parked on the driveway over the prior 24 hours and stolen a small medical kit from its glove compartment. It was later found dumped in the road, and there was no reported loss from the incident.
  • A resident in the 3000 block of Mary Kay Lane reported at 10:50 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had gotten into an unlocked car parked on their driveway overnight and stolen a wallet and a backpack for a loss of about $250.
  • A resident in the 1500 block of Hawthorne Lane reported at 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 6 that someone had gone into their unlocked car parked on the driveway during the overnight hours and stole a phone charger from the center console for a loss of $10.
  • A resident in the 1300 block of Hawthorne Lane reported around 10:16 a.m. on Oct. 6 that someone had rummaged through an unlocked car parked on the driveway during the previous night but nothing was reported stolen.
  • A resident in the 2000 block of Grove Street reported at 1:51 p.m. on Oct. 6 that someone had stolen a backpack with a wallet and a computer from an unlocked car that had been left parked in the driveway overnight.
  • A resident in the 1500 block of Topp Lane reported at 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 6 that someone had gone into an unlocked car parked on the street in front of their residence during previous night and stolen keys and credit cards from inside.
  • A resident in the 4100 block of Chester Drive reported at 4:12 p.m. on Oct. 7 that someone had entered an unlocked car parked on the driveway sometime during the prior two days and took a wallet from the center console. The wallet was located on an adjoining street.
  • A guest in the 300 block of Elm Street reported around 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 that someone had gone into an unlocked car parked on the driveway overnight and stolen a file folder, which was found a short distance away.

STOLEN CARS

  • A resident in the 500 block of Coronet Road reported at 2 a.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had stolen a black, 2010 Mercedes Benz that had been left unlocked while parked on the driveway with the keys stored in the cup holder. It was last seen around 10 p.m. the prior night.
  • A resident in the 2000 block of Grove Street reported on the morning of Oct. 6 that someone had gotten into their unlocked garage, taken car keys hanging from a hook inside and used them to steal a red 2006 Lexus from the driveway during the overnight hours.

UNLAWFUL ACQUISITION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
An pharmacy employee at the Walgreens, 3301 Glenview Road, reported around 6 p.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had tried to fill a fraudulent prescription for an opiate and an antibiotic.

THEFT
A customer at the Mobil, 9701 Milwaukee Ave., reported at 6:38 p.m. on Oct. 5 that their wallet had been stolen after leaving it at the station accidentally for a loss of $370.

INTOXICATED INTRUDER
A resident in the 1500 block of Independence Avenue reported shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 that an intoxicated person had tried to walk into their home uninvited.

SHOPLIFTING
An employee at Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, reported shortly after 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 that someone had stolen a pair of men's dress shirts from a display and left the store for a loss of $110.

LAWYER SCAM
A Harvard Court resident reported around 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 5 that someone with a male voice purporting to be a lawyer had called up asked for money to make a bond for a relative who had supposedly been involved in an accident. It turned out to be a ruse and the resident found themselves scammed out of more than $3,000 in an unspecified payment.

BANK FRAUD
A Brandess Drive reported on the evening of Oct. 5 that someone had gained access to their bank account and made unauthorized transfers of more than $3,000 out of the account.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 300 block of Wilmette Avenue reported on the morning of Oct. 6 that someone had done $50 in damage to their garage door between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 5.

THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEM
A shopper at the Trader Joe's at 1407 Waukegan Road reported around 2 p.m. on Oct. 7 that someone had stolen a purse that had been left unattended in a shopping cart for a loss of $300.

ILLEGAL DUMPING
An employee of an unspecified business in the 200 block of Waukegan Road reported at 3:41 p.m. on Oct. 8 that someone had dumped a large bundle of freshly cut branches onto a rear parking lot of the property.

THEFT
A patron of a store in the 2300 block of Capital Drive reported at 6 p.m. on Oct. 8 that someone had taken a stone worth $2,500 from a wedding ring that had been lost inside the store. The ring's setting was found.

BATTERY
A resident in the 4500 block of Lilac Avenue reported at 12:40 a.m. on Oct. 9 that someone had punched him in the head during an unprovoked fight. No charges were filed.


ARRESTS

Ronald Marisie, 56, of the 100 block of Buckskin Lane in Streamwood, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Oct. 2 in the 4800 block of West Lake Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08. He was also ticketed for speeding.

A 21-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested around 11 p.m. on Oct. 2 and charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding.

Carol Zoltek, 71 and without a listed address, was arrested at the Glenview Police Department at 10:38 a.m. on Oct. 3 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for activating a fire alarm in the lobby of the police station when there was no fire.

Judith Villani, 77, 2200 Glenview Road in Glenview, was arrested around noon on Oct. 5 at her home and charged with domestic battery.

Robert Simmons, 42, of the 3000 block of Applegate Lane in Glenview, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 7 following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of East Lake Avenue and charged with DUI and speeding more than 26 mph over the limit.

Jason Piunti, 19, of the 2500 block of Waterview Drive in Northbrook, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 7 following a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Capital Drive and charged with DUI – combination of alcohol and drugs and reckless driving.

Leonell Gonzalez-Bandera, 41, of the 400 block of Cherry Lane in Glenview, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Oct. 8 following a traffic stop in the 9700 block of Milwaukee Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above. He was also issued citations for speeding less than 15 mph above the posted limit and driving without lights when required.
