Know Your Local Government: Northfield Township and Northfield Township Road District

The League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe (LWV-GG) is hosting the first in a series of programs called "Know Your Local Government". The inaugural program will focus on Northfield Township and Northfield Township Road District.
The speakers will be Northfield Township Supervisor Shiva Mohsenzadeh and Northfield Township Road District Commissioner Mike Korman.
In May, the Northfield Township Board of Trustees approved inclusion of three referenda on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot. Two of the referenda are nonbinding. The third is a binding referendum which asks voters whether the Road District should be abolished, with its powers, assets, and obligations assumed by the township government. Currently, Northfield Township Road District is an independent unit of government with an elected Road Commissioner.
The program will include the following:
1.Responsibilities of the Northfield Township government and the Northfield Township Road District as defined by both Illinois law and community need
2.How each unit of local government is funded and administered
3.How the two taxing units intersect
4.A description of the three referenda
The program on August 3 is very timely as it may help voters determine how they might vote on the upcoming Northfield Township referenda. The League invites the community to attend.
