A special community-wide Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday November 8, 2026, at the Glenview New Church Auditorium, located at 74 Park Drive, Glenview, Illinois, 60025.
The event is free, open to all, and specifically designed to support anyone experiencing the ongoing grief of losing a family member, neighbor, or friend.
This community gathering focuses on collective healing, shared comfort, and honoring the enduring impact of those who have died. The event will feature four interactive tributes:
- Reading of Names: Attendees can have their loved ones' names spoken aloud.
- Candle Lighting: A collective “lighting” (battery operated) of candles to symbolize shared warmth and memory.
- Photo Sharing: Guests are invited to bring a small, framed photograph to place on a communal memory table.
- Memory Sharing: Attendees will have to opportunity to gather in small groups and share a favorite story or memory of their loved one.
Grief can often feel isolating, especially as time passes and the rest of the world moves on. We created this service to remind our neighbors that they do not have to carry their loss alone. It is a dedicated space to speak their names, share their stories, and find comfort in community.
Doors will open at 1:45. The event will last approximately two hours to allow for everyone to have a turn to speak in their small groups. Light refreshments, conversation, and a time for shared reflection will follow immediately after the closing.
