Chicago Lighthouse To Co-Host Race/Walk For Wellness

To celebrate wellness and inclusion, two iconic Chicago institutions, the Central Lions Club and The Chicago Lighthouse, will unveil the Inaugural Rise to Shine 10K/5K/1M Run & Walk on Sunday, October 23.

The Race/Walk, which is USATF certified and chip-timed, welcomes participants from across the Chicago area and will take place in the Illinois Medical District (IMD) just two miles west of the Loop.

The Illinois Medical District is just one of many leading area organizations who have come together to sponsor and support this new initiative.

“The Illinois Medical District is honored to sponsor the Rise to Shine race in support of health, wellness, and inclusion,” says IMD Executive Director Allyson J. Hansen. “We hope to have many more events just like this one where we can all come together as a community.”

Starting time is 7:30 AM for 10K/5K adaptive participants and 8 AM for 5K/10K/1M general participants.

All registered runners and walkers will receive a cooling performance t-shirt and custom finisher medal. Custom age group awards will also be presented in 5-year increments up to age 70 plus.

To add to the fun, participants are encouraged to invite colleagues, family or friends and form their own team. They can create a team name, fun shirt or wear crazy costumes. A team can be anywhere from three people or one hundred people. To enroll, select the team option when registering. Names can be added at any time.

An added feature of the event will be a Dash Bash, which will open at 7:00 AM and include a race for kids, entertainment and other activities.

The Rise to Shine Run & Walk is presented by The Chicago Lighthouse and the Chicago Central Lions Club to promote wellness and inclusion throughout our community. The Lighthouse and the Central Lions Club are dedicated to helping people who are blind, visually impaired, disabled, or Veterans throughout Chicago build confidence and live as independently as possible.
