Civic Award Winners Honored in Glenview
Retiring employees and citizen distinctions highlighted the May 8 banquet.

The village of Glenview honored several civic award winners on May 8 at the North Shore Country Club.
Several public employees who are retiring following long careers were among the first to be presented, according to the Journal & Topics.
Those included three top outgoing Glenview Park District leaders -- Executive Director Chuck Balling, Supt. of Leisure Services and Park Foundation Treasurer Robert Quill, and Supt. of Special Facilities Cheryl Deom as well as retiring Fire Chief Wayne Globerger and Post 166 Cmdr. William “Bill” Bickley.

“It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,” Bickley said. “Here, my cup runneth over.”
Among the other awards presented was the Citizen of the Year, which went to Myrna Newman, an accountant who “herself often did important, yet unseen work helping several of Glenview’s civic organizations” on a voluntary basis.
