Coat Drive For Asylum Seekers Planned For Glenview
Donations will be accepted between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday at the office of Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton.
GLENVIEW, IL — Since the end of August, Cook County has seen more than 3,000 asylum-seeking immigrants move here, according to the office of Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton (D-14th District).
Recently, a bus from Texas transporting asylum seekers from Venezuela arrived in Cook County and settled in the 14th District. In September, around 90 migrants who entered the United States at the Texas border were sent to Cook County.

With winter almost here, Britton is hoping to help the new community members out. Donations of coats and gloves can be dropped off between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday at Britton's Glenview office, 1812 Waukegan Road, according to a news release.
Organizers said only brand new coats and hats with tags will be accepted due to health and safety concerns. Budget-friendly options include 32Degrees, Burlington, Costco, Marshalls, Ross Dress for Less, and TJMaxx.

"It brings me great relief knowing that we are a giving community that will go the extra mile to help those in need," Britton said. "Every day we are truly building a better Cook County together."
