Congressman To Hold First Town Hall Of 2019 In Glenview

GLENVIEW, IL — U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider is holding his first town hall event of the year in Glenview on Saturday, his office announced. The Deerfield Democrat has just begun his 10th Congressional District. His office organized at least 30 public town hall meeting last term.

The congressman's first "Congress on Your Corner" event of 2019 is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Glenview Village Hall, 2500 E. Lake Ave.

Schneider will meet constituents, answer questions and provide an update on what's going on in Washington, D.C. on what could be the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.

Schneider was elected in November to his third term and first consecutive term representing the north suburban 10th Congressional District in the 116th Congress, defeating challenger Doug Bennett, a Deerfield computer consultant and local Republican committeeman, by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. He was sworn in on Thursday as part of an incoming Democratic Party majority.

Schneider said he was looking forward to "hitting the ground running" in 2019.

“I urge Tenth District residents to continue reaching out, sharing their opinions, and attending our events. Each letter, call, and conversation helps guide me as I represent our communities," he said in a statement. "Our first order of business must be ending President Trump’s irresponsible government shutdown so we can move together as a nation to tackle the real challenges before us – creating opportunity for working families to get ahead, improving the quality and lowering the cost of health care, reducing gun violence, reforming our immigration system, addressing global climate change and more.”

Following his swearing in, Schneider held open house events Monday at his district offices in Lincolnshire, Round Lake Park and Waukegan. He also attended the opening of a new satellite office at Waukegan City Hall, which is open Tuesday afternoons and during business hours on Wednesday.
