Deerfield Congregation BJBE Honors Teachers in Unique Hanukkah Celebration
Regular Friday Shabbat service was illuminated with a special spiritual ambiance as BJBE congregants gathered for a massive candlelight ceremony of gratitude and celebration of Hanukkah and recognition of their teaching faculty. Rabbi Karyn Kedar was joined by Rabbi Brian Stoller, Cantor Jennifer Frost and Cantor Rayna Green in leading hundreds of intergenerational families in the traditional candle lighting ceremony that commemorates the historic Hanukkah story of hope, freedom and miracles. Members of BJBE used this opportunity to also celebrate and honor their teachers and teaching assistants for their dedication to the children, who bring them wisdom of the Torah and their love for Judaism.
“It is so powerful when our community comes together”, stated Rabbi Kedar. “Tonight, light banished darkness, as we lit Hanukkah candles and honored our teachers, who dedicate themselves so that we may learn.”
Traditional Hanukkah treats were enjoyed such as latkes and sufganiyot. Congregation BJBE continued their tradition of families lighting their personal chanukiot during the service.
