Students were encouraged to donate increments of 25 cents on the 25th day of each month on the 25th anniversary of a fund made in her memory

GLENVIEW, IL - Students in Glenview School District 34 raised more than $5,000 in memory of an active school volunteer on the 25th anniversary of her death.

Debra Gelfand, a mother of six sons, was an active volunteer in District 34, according to a school news release. She passed away from cancer at the young age of 37 in 1990, and a fund was created in her memory to help others continue her work of helping others.

During the 2015-16 school year - the 25th anniversary of the fund's establishment - students at the district's schools were encouraged to donate increments of 25 cents on the 25th day of every month.
