Driver Dies In Head-On Crash In Glenview

A 67-year-old Schiller Park man was pronounced dead following a traffic crash Tuesday morning on Lake Avenue, police said.

GLENVIEW, IL — One person died in a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Glenview, police said. Police and fire personnel arrived at the scene of the fatal two-car crash in the 4700 block of Lake Avenue shortly before 5:30 a.m. The drivers of the two vehicles were the only occupants, according to police. They were both taken to Lutheran General Hospital.

The driver of the the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m., police said. He was identified as Raul Gonzalez, 67, of the 5000 block of Michigan Avenue in Schiller Park. The other driver received treatment at the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

After the crash, officers found both cars — a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Lincoln MKZ — had come to a stop in the median separating Lake Avenue's four lanes west of Milwaukee Avenue, according to Sgt. Jim Foley.

The Major Crash Assistance Team has opened an investigation into the cause of the crash and Lake Avenue was closed until about 10:30 a.m. No further information was immediately available Tuesday morning.
